Take a minute
to review your computer backup procedure. Ask yourself,
how much you would lose if your computer was suddenly unusable,
and the last backup - from a week ago, turned out to be
corrupted? This scenario is not as uncommon as you might
think.
So, here
are some simple “best practice” backup habits:
1. Backup
data each day on to a separate daily external unit (USB
stick, External disk / tape)
2. Also, have 4 Friday backup units and rotate these each
week – it’s unlikely all four would be corrupted!
Alternatively use one of the many online backup solutions
which back-up your data to a remote server. However, depending
on the volume of data for back-up, this option can turn
out to be quite expensive.
No business,
no matter how small or large, should be without a computer
data backup procedure. A backup procedure can be as simple
as copying important data onto a single USB stick, external
hard disk or tape, once a week, using specific backup software
or a simple copy and paste function.
